About Foul Territory

A Love Letter to Baseball… With a Wobbly Pen

Foul Territory is where the rules are made up, the lines are hand-drawn, and the strike zone is roughly the size of Rhode Island (on a good day). This single-panel cartoon series proudly presents the fun, the quirks, and the occasionally absurd realities of the great game of baseball. From player superstitions to mascot mishaps to the fan who swears they could’ve caught that foul ball “if only they hadn’t been holding nachos,” no corner of the diamond is safe from a doodle.

A Lifelong Fan Turned Cartoonist

The creator of Foul Territory, Jeff Fox, is a lifetime baseball devotee whose passion for the game is rivaled only by his desire to share its best (and funniest) parts with anyone who’ll listen.

Raised on a steady diet of Yankees games in the Bronx and regaled with tales of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he somehow — despite never living on the West Coast and visiting only a handful of times — became a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan. The torture is real, and yes, he keeps coming back for more.

Armed with an overactive imagination, an incurable pun problem, and scorecards suspiciously full of doodles, our cartoonist captures the joy, the silliness, and the wonderfully weird beauty of the game — one ink-blotted joke at a time.

He creates because somewhere out there, a kid is watching a game, doodling in a notebook, and imagining what a crazy moment in baseball would look like in cartoon form. Foul Territory exists to prove that kid can grow up and still get away with it.

Hat tip: This series tips its cap to the great tradition of baseball cartooning — and to the spirit of Mike Ricigliano — whose work reminds us that the game is at its best when it makes us smile.
